Italian court permits staged reunification for off-grid British-Australian family
A juvenile court in L’Aquila approved a gradual process that will let the British father and Australian mother spend increasing time with their three children, who have been in residential care.
The juvenile court of L’Aquila issued a ruling that sets a step-by-step reunification schedule for a British-Australian couple and their three children, who have lived in a residential facility since November. Under the plan, the parents can begin daytime visits immediately and will be allowed weekend overnight stays starting in October, with social services supervising each stage. The court had previously suspended the parents’ responsibility in an order dated 20 November of the prior year.
The children—a nine-year-old girl and twin boys aged seven—remain in care while their reintegration is assessed. Their attorney, Simone Pillon, indicated the family will appeal to accelerate a complete reunification. Ongoing oversight by social services will determine whether a permanent return home is viable.
