Italian police dismantle transnational child-exploitation network in ‘Fly Trap’ operation

A Rome-based anti-mafia prosecutor coordinated a police raid that dismantled an internationally linked criminal organization spreading child sexual abuse content online, resulting in 17 precautionary measures issued by a judge. Officials will disclose details such as the suspects’ identities, their functions within the network, and how the operation was traced, including any cross-border links that could qualify the group as transnational.

The case follows a series of recent actions by Italy’s National Center for the Contrast of Online Child Pornography and regional cyber-security centers, which have conducted raids in dozens of cities and seized large volumes of illicit material. Earlier police work in Catania led to seven arrests and investigations in thirty additional cases, while a separate Lazio operation apprehended seven men ranging from technicians to a former condominium manager. The crackdown reflects ongoing national and international efforts, mirroring large-scale U.S. operations that have rescued hundreds of minors and resulted in hundreds of arrests.
