Iváncsa battery plant hit with new penalty for illegal groundwater discharge
The battery factory in Iváncsa received an additional fine after authorities found it operating in violation of its water-pollution permit.
Ervin Nagy, cultural state secretary and regional MP, reported that the Iváncsa battery manufacturing site faces a fresh penalty after the Fejér County Government Office identified breaches of its environmental licence. The violation involves groundwater pollution, leading regulators to demand the immediate cessation of the contaminated pipelines and wells, as well as any similar installations. The municipality conducted water sampling at 55 locations, none of which showed signs of contamination.
Nagy noted that the previous sanction was imposed because the plant’s operations had severely endangered the health and safety of 65 employees. The new fine mirrors the earlier amount, reinforcing the authorities’ stance on environmental compliance.
