J&K senior IAS officer accused of verbally abusing female colleague in video call
A senior IAS officer in Jammu and Kashmir was filmed calling a subordinate officer “bloody shit,” sparking condemnation from multiple political parties.
During a departmental review meeting held virtually from the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar, IAS officer Kumar Rajeev Ranjan reportedly called JKAS officer Beenish Wani “bloody shit” and ordered her to leave the meeting. The video quickly went viral, leading politicians from the National Conference, BJP, Congress and the PDP to demand an inquiry and possible suspension. The labour department responded by asserting the clip was entirely AI-generated and that Wani had been on leave since October 13, 2026.
JKAS representatives rejected this claim, stating the video is genuine and that several officials witnessed the exchange. They called on the Lieutenant Governor, the Chief Secretary and the General Administration Department to launch an impartial investigation and protect the officer from retaliation. Ranjan has not responded to repeated contact attempts.
Why it matters
The incident raises concerns about workplace harassment and accountability within the J&K bureaucracy.
