JAC Motors to Begin Local Assembly of T9 Hybrid and Electric Pickup Trucks in Malaysia
JAC Motors, through its Malaysian distributor Evolvelectric Motors, signed a deal with FT Assembly to build T9 diesel, plug-in hybrid and battery-electric pickups locally, starting late 2026.
JAC Motors' Malaysian partner Evolvelectric Motors Sdn Bhd has entered a partnership with FT Assembly Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Feytech Holdings Bhd, to locally assemble the brand's T9 pickup range, including diesel, plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and battery-electric (BEV) models. The phased completely knocked down (CKD) program will start with the T9 PHEV petrol variant, with production scheduled for November 2026 at Feytech's Kulim facility in Kedah, targeting an annual output of roughly 3,000 units in its first year.
The diesel and BEV models will follow, with the BEV line slated for a January 2027 launch. Executives from both companies emphasized that the project expands Malaysia's capability in the light-commercial new energy vehicle segment and could pave the way for exporting pickups, contingent on favorable conditions. The collaboration also aims to strengthen the local automotive supply chain and create new manufacturing opportunities.
