At a Fianna Fáil think-in in Tullamore, Public Expenditure Minister Jack Chambers outlined the government’s €1.5 billion income-tax package slated for the 2027 budget, calling it modest and likely to return only a few hundred euros to most taxpayers. He explained that the reforms will combine changes to tax bands with adjustments to credits, targeting low- and middle-income workers and aiming to be progressive and sustainable.
Chambers stressed the need for fiscal prudence, saying the measures are designed to protect wage growth while remaining affordable in the medium term. He referenced Finance Minister Simon Harris’s earlier remarks about supporting people who work early mornings and night shifts. Chambers warned that noticeable gains in take-home pay will require a series of budgets, not a single overhaul. The minister concluded that the government intends to ease the tax burden gradually and responsibly.
