Jack Lowden cast as sideburned Mr Darcy in Netflix's Pride and Prejudice series

Jack Lowden will portray a sideburn-sporting Mr Darcy in Netflix’s upcoming six-part adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel, alongside Corrine Frey as Elizabeth Bennet.

Netflix is launching a six-episode adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, starring Corrine Frey as Elizabeth Bennet, who is shown contemplative in a field wearing a red dress and floral spencer jacket. Jack Lowden takes on the role of Mr Darcy, distinguished by sideburns, a rolled-up white shirt and a wool waistcoat. Claire Colman portrays the matriarch Mrs Bennet, while Louis Partridge appears as the smug antagonist Mr Wickham in a red military jacket.

Supporting roles feature Jamie Demetriou as the pompous Mr Collins, Daryl McCormack as Mr Bingley, Rufus Sewell as Mr Bennet, and the Bennet sisters played by Freya Mavor, Rhea Norwood, Hopey Parish and Hollie Avery. The series adds to a rich history of adaptations, including the 2005 film starring Keira Knightley and the 1995 TV version whose shirt sold for £20,000 at charity auction. A comedic horror spin-off, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, also reflects the novel’s enduring popularity.

Why it matters

The casting reveals Netflix's investment in high-profile literary adaptations, attracting fans of classic literature and streaming audiences.
