Jacksonville crackdown nets 59 arrests of registered sex offenders

From June 15 through August 14, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service carried out "Operation Riverwatch" to enforce registration requirements for sexual offenders. The sheriff’s Offender Tracking Unit spent more than 230 hours performing 535 compliance inspections across the city. As a result, 59 men and women, ranging from 21 to 76 years old, were arrested for failing to follow mandatory reporting or registration conditions imposed after incarceration.

Florida statutes classify such breaches as felonies and may impose further registration obligations. The sheriff’s office announced the arrests via a social-media post, emphasizing the goal of protecting the community.
