Jacob deGrom refuses trade request, remains with Texas Rangers for now

The Texas Rangers entered the 2026 trade deadline as potential sellers, yet right-hander Jacob deGrom chose not to activate his no-trade clause, expressing a desire to stay with the team. Sources say the Atlanta Braves were among the clubs that inquired about deGrom, but no agreement was reached. The Rangers have already executed a deal, dealing infielder Josh Smith to the Toronto Blue Jays for left-hander Adam Macko, and are reportedly considering offers for shortstop Corey Seager, who carries a partial no-trade clause, and right-hander Nathan Eovaldi, who holds a full clause.

Despite being 38 and seven years removed from his second Cy Young Award, deGrom posted a 3.96 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 135 strikeouts over 113 2/3 innings this year, following an All-Star season with 185 strikeouts in 30 starts. He is owed $37 million in 2027 and has a $20 million club option for 2028. The deadline has already seen several pitchers change clubs, including Tarik Skubal, Freddy Peralta and Kevin Gausman.
