Jacobs and Aecom win up to €550 million contract to steer Dublin MetroLink build

A joint venture between Jacobs and Aecom has obtained a programme delivery partner contract valued at up to €550 million to supervise the construction of Dublin’s MetroLink, a 19-kilometre rail corridor from Swords in north County Dublin to Charlemont near the airport and city centre. The 12-year agreement, the largest awarded for the project so far, arrives as the government prepares to decide whether Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII) may open the tender for construction, following fresh cost estimates ranging from €14 billion to €17.5 billion.

TII chief executive Lorcan O’Connor called the appointment a critical transition toward full-scale delivery, emphasizing strict budget, schedule, safety and quality controls. By the end of the year, TII expects to have spent almost €750 million, largely on property acquisitions such as land on O’Connell Street from Hammerson and residential blocks near the planned stations. Additional purchases include houses at Dartmouth Square in Ranelagh and apartments above the Markievicz swimming pool for the Tara Street station, while the agency will also fund a new €43 million public swimming pool in Ringsend to replace the Markievicz leisure centre.
