Jagan Mohan Reddy blocks niece’s wedding at family palace amid sibling property feud
Jagan Mohan Reddy has refused to let his niece’s wedding be held at the family’s Yelahanka Palace in Bengaluru, citing an ongoing property dispute with his sister Sharmila.
Jagan Mohan Reddy communicated through their mother YS Vijayamma that the family’s Yelahanka Palace in Bengaluru will not be available for his niece YS Anjili Reddy’s wedding on November 25, rejecting Sharmila’s request. Sharmila, who leads the Andhra Pradesh Congress, had planned the ceremony after Anjili’s September 24 engagement to US-based Somala Raghurami Reddy and had already dispatched invitations to top political figures.
The dispute stems from a long-running contention over family properties and shares in Saraswati Power and Industries Ltd, a case currently before the National Company Law Tribunal. The siblings’ rivalry dates back to the death of their father Y S Rajasekhar Reddy in 2009, which left the division of assets unresolved. Jagan’s stance leaves Sharmila scrambling for an alternative venue that can meet security and logistical needs for the invited dignitaries. Their relationship has soured since Jagan became chief minister in 2019, with Sharmila now heading the Congress in Andhra Pradesh after a brief stint with a Telangana party.
