Jaishankar warns of global “weaponisation” and abyss-level risks at UN

At the UN General Assembly’s general debate, India’s external affairs minister S Jaishankar warned that the world is witnessing a “weaponisation of everything”, from finance and market access to technology and supply chains, eroding trust among nations. He described a severe “4F crisis” of food, fuel, fertiliser and finance affecting the Global South, compounded by a forecast-strong El Niño and fertilizer shortages. Jaishankar condemned state-sponsored, cross-border terrorism and called for accountability, referencing recent attacks on commercial vessels that have claimed the lives of Indian seafarers.

He urged restraint in the Gulf conflict, reaffirmed India’s backing of a two-state solution for Palestine, and highlighted India’s development projects in 78 countries and its role in initiatives such as the International Solar Alliance. The minister concluded that multilateral reform is essential as the post-1945 order faces new multipolar realities.
