Jakarta police map three financial networks behind August 27 riots
Jakarta Metropolitan Police say they have identified three separate funding groups that paid participants in the August 27 unrest.
During a press briefing, the Jakarta Metropolitan Police announced the detection of three distinct financing clusters linked to the August 27 riots. The first cluster paid Rp40,000 per individual, routed through a field coordinator identified only by the initials JT, who received instructions from PKL, who in turn was directed by a figure called SO. The second cluster was traced to a university student labeled ER, who promised Rp70,000 per participant after being tasked by a corporate entity that is still under investigation.
A third cluster emerged from the Women and Children Protection and Anti-Human Trafficking Directorate's review of underage offenders, revealing that three suspects had recruited minors and provided them stipends to join the disturbances. All suspects remain detained, and police say the probe will continue to target the organizers and financiers of the post-demonstration violence.
