Jakarta Metro Police announced that a joint security contingent of 3,983 members, comprising TNI troops, Polri officers, local government staff and internal security personnel, would be stationed at the DPR/MPR complex on Monday to secure a protest organized by the All-Indonesia Student Executive Bodies (BEM SI). Police chief commissioner Akhmadi indicated that traffic management plans are ready and will be applied according to crowd size and movement, urging drivers on Jalan Gatot Subroto to seek alternate routes to avoid congestion.
The BEM SI protest invites both students and the broader public to demonstrate, highlighting several education-sector demands. Among these are a participatory overhaul of the National Education System Law, provision of free education, enhanced welfare for teachers and staff, and assurances for the continuity of private higher-education institutions within the free higher-education framework.
