Jakarta police seize over 7 kg of meth and arrest middleman

Police in Central Jakarta confiscated 7.2 kg of methamphetamine and detained a 35-year-old suspect linked to a wanted dealer.

Central Jakarta police launched an operation following a citizen report of odd behavior on Jelambar Baru Raya Street in West Jakarta. Narcotics units monitored the area and later apprehended SH, a 35-year-old man, in the Grogol Petamburan district. Officers discovered a paper bag with narcotics and, after searching his rented room, found a gray suitcase containing seven large packages of methamphetamine, amounting to 7,218.1 grams.

SH is alleged to have served as a middleman for a dealer known as B, who is currently wanted by authorities. He was reportedly paid Rp5 million per kilogram, receiving Rp6 million so far. The drugs were tested at the National Police Forensic Laboratory, and officials estimate the seizure protected roughly 72,200 youths from addiction. Police continue to hunt for the dealer B.

Why it matters
