James Spyridon Vlassakis Leaves Adelaide Pre-release Centre After Parole Confirmation

James Spyridon Vlassakis, one of the Snowtown killers, was filmed exiting the Adelaide Pre-release Centre following a parole decision confirmed last month.

James Spyridon Vlassakis, the youngest of the four men convicted for the Snowtown serial killings, was recorded leaving the Adelaide Pre-release Centre after his parole was confirmed nearly a month ago. The South Australian government had tried to prevent his release, but the decision was upheld in September once his non-parole period ended. Vlassakis, now 46, transferred from a South Australian prison to the pre-release facility located beside Yatala Labour Prison in Adelaide’s northern suburbs.

The centre is designed to help inmates transition back into society, and he may stay there for up to twelve months. During this time, the Parole Board will assess his behaviour and determine any conditions required before full community release.

Why it matters

The release of a Snowtown serial killer raises public safety concerns and highlights parole system processes.
