Jane Fonda's Climate PAC spends over $5 million backing progressive candidates before midterms
Jane Fonda’s Climate PAC has poured more than $5 million into races for socialist-leaning Democrats ahead of the upcoming midterm elections.
Federal filings show Jane Fonda’s Climate PAC has collected $8 million and disbursed more than $5 million to candidates whose platforms align with aggressive climate action. The group spent $1.8 million on operations, transferred $3.4 million to campaigns and passed $228,000 to other committees, while retaining $5 million in cash. It contributed $5,000 to high-profile races, including Democrat Annie Andrews in South Carolina, Wisconsin gubernatorial hopeful Francesca Hong, and Senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts, as well as to state-level contenders like Peggy Flanagan in Minnesota and William Lawrence in Michigan.
Smaller donations reached local contests such as an Oregon county commission and a Luzerne County, Pennsylvania council seat. Fonda, a longtime activist, says the goal is to break fossil-fuel influence by electing climate champions at all levels of government.
Why it matters
The funding could sway tightly contested races and shape U.S. climate policy by increasing the number of elected officials committed to aggressive environmental reforms.
