Japan Airlines trims international fuel surcharges as oil prices fall
Japan Airlines announced lower fuel fees for September-October international tickets after recent declines in jet fuel costs.
Japan Airlines disclosed that it will cut the fuel surcharge applied to international tickets issued in September and October, reflecting the recent fall in fuel prices after the U.S.-Iran war eased. One-way fares to North America and Europe will now carry a surcharge of 50,000 yen, versus the peak of 65,000 yen for July and August, while tickets to China and Taiwan will see the fee fall to 12,400 yen from 16,900 yen. The airline noted that the price drop stems from lower jet fuel costs in June and July, which affect tickets sold later in the year.
All Nippon Airways announced comparable reductions, setting its surcharge at 55,000 yen for North America and Europe and 14,300 yen for China and Taiwan. Fuel surcharges are variable fees tied to fuel market fluctuations, and the outlook for later this year remains unclear as U.S.-Iran peace talks have stalled.
Why it matters
Lower fuel fees could make overseas travel cheaper for passengers and affect airline pricing competition.
