Japan transfers Russian ransomware suspect to German authorities for Qilin case
Japan has handed over a detained Russian national, suspected of being a key Qilin ransomware member, to German officials.
Japanese authorities transferred a Russian citizen, believed to be a senior figure in the Qilin ransomware group, to Germany after a request from German officials. The suspect is linked to a 2025 cyberattack on Asahi Group Holdings Ltd and a 2024 cryptocurrency extortion of a German logistics firm. The National Police Agency said Qilin was suspected in 32 of 149 ransomware incidents recorded in Japan in 2025.
