Jasmine Crockett says she will not campaign for James Talarico in Senate race

Rep. Jasmine Crockett told a journalist at one outlet that she will not be campaigning alongside James Talarico, the former primary opponent she lost to by six points, as he runs for the U.S. Senate against Attorney General Ken Paxton. She said her efforts will be directed toward down-ballot races and amplifying candidates who may be overlooked. Crockett also expressed doubt that Black voters are excited about this election cycle.

Since her primary defeat, she has described the contest as a "racist race." A new poll from the nonpartisan Texas Public Opinion Research indicates Talarico leads Paxton by six points overall and enjoys support from Black, Latino, younger, college-educated, and female voters, while Paxton leads among white voters and those over 55. Democrats are seeking to win a Texas Senate seat for the first time since 1988.
