Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo's "La bola negra" chosen as Spain's Oscar entry

Spain's Academy of Cinema has named "La bola negra" as the country's Oscar contender, a decision disclosed by Alejandro Amenábar. The film, created by Javier Ambrossi and Javier Calvo, draws on an incomplete play by Federico García Lorca and portrays the lives of three homosexual men across distinct historical eras. While the picture has yet to premiere in Spain, the filmmakers are actively campaigning from Los Angeles.

At the recent Cannes festival, "La bola negra" earned a joint best-direction prize alongside Pawel Pawlikowski's "Fatherland". The selection places the Javis' work at the forefront of Spain's push for international recognition at the Academy Awards.
