JCBL Group secures DRDO licence to produce 20-tonne heavy-drop system for C-130J and C-17
JCBL Group's defence subsidiary obtained a DRDO licensing agreement to manufacture an indigenous 20-tonne heavy-drop system for use with C-130J and C-17 transport aircraft.
During a DRDO-Industry Synergy Meet, JCBL Group's defence arm received a technology-transfer licence from the Defence Research and Development Organisation for a 20-tonne Heavy Drop System, known as Type V. The system, created jointly by JCBL's Airbornics Defence & Space and DRDO's Aerial Delivery Research and Development Establishment, was field-tested by the Indian Army earlier this year. It enables low-velocity airdrops of heavy equipment, including armoured vehicles, from aircraft such as the Lockheed Martin C-130J Super Hercules and Boeing C-17 Globemaster.
Indigenous design of main parachutes, extractor systems and drop platforms underpins India's goal of defence manufacturing self-sufficiency. The licence handover was witnessed by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and DRDO Chairman Rajesh Kumar Singh.
Why it matters
The deal boosts India's indigenous defence capabilities and reduces reliance on foreign suppliers for heavy-airdrop equipment.
