JD Vance raises over $5 million at exclusive Hamptons donor gathering
Vice President JD Vance collected more than $5 million at a Southampton fundraiser for young Republican donors, fueling speculation about a 2028 presidential run.
JD Vance, serving as finance chair of the Republican National Committee, oversaw a fundraising soirée in Southampton, New York, that generated in excess of $5 million from a select group of young Republican donors. The gathering took place at the home of Omeed Malik, president of 1789 Capital and noted Trump supporter, and counted roughly 35 participants, among them Donald Trump Jr., Polymarket founder Shayne Coplan, and GRV Strategies founder Garrett Ventry, as well as relatives of senior Trump administration figures.
After a reception where each of about 15 guests contributed $100,000 to the RNC, a smaller dinner group of around 20 individuals each pledged $250,000. Vance has a track record of large-scale fundraising, including a June event in Palo Alto that raised $4.2 million. While he has not publicly declared intentions for a 2028 presidential bid, recent comments from Donald Trump have hinted at a possible future ticket involving Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. A poll from Emerson College showed Rubio slightly ahead of Vance in hypothetical matchups.
Why it matters
The haul shows Vance's growing fundraising clout and hints at his potential role in future Republican presidential politics.
