Jeff Bezos-led consortium to buy 38% of Liverpool in £2 billion deal
A group headed by Jeff Bezos and Amit Bhatia will acquire a 38% minority stake in Liverpool Football Club for roughly £2 billion.
A consortium that includes Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, former QPR director Amit Bhatia and several family trusts has struck a deal to take a 38% equity position in Liverpool Football Club. Valued at between $5 billion and $6 billion, the purchase price is close to £2 billion, higher than earlier estimates of £1.4 billion. The vehicle 1892 Holdings will hold the minority stake, while Fenway Sports Group remains the controlling owner.
The agreement grants the consortium an option to acquire a majority share within the next 12 months, though no obligation exists. Following regulatory approval, Bhatia will become Liverpool's vice-chairman, joining a larger board that also features EE Capital’s Elaine Saverin and K5 Sports’ Bryan Baum. The partners expressed admiration for FSG and pledged long-term support for the club.
