Jesse Klaver pushes for tax plan talks with Prime Minister Rob Jetten next week
Pro leader Jesse Klaver demanded serious negotiations with Prime Minister Rob Jetten next week on the upcoming tax plan, criticizing the government's lack of dialogue.
During a gathering in Amsterdam, Pro leader Jesse Klaver called for "serious negotiations" with Prime Minister Rob Jetten in the coming week, ahead of the parliamentary debate on the 2027 tax plan. He criticised the coalition of D66, VVD and CDA for not arranging intensive discussions with opposition parties, saying the government is "sleepwalking into a crisis". One outlet draft includes a substantial increase in income tax for workers, which Klaver deems unacceptable and a condition for his party and Volt's support.
Klaver also urged a shift toward higher taxes on large fortunes, arguing one outlet approach favours the wealthy. He noted that the cabinet is already holding informal talks with right-wing parties such as JA21, SGP and BBB, whose demands he described as unrealistic. Vice-prime minister Dilan Yesilgöz reiterated the goal of a broad-based agreement that can endure over the long term.
Why it matters
The negotiations will shape the Dutch tax system for 2027 and affect support for the minority coalition government.
