Jet2 Flight Evacuated at Tenerife Airport After Passenger Claims Bomb, Delays Departure
A Jet2 flight bound for London was emptied at Tenerife South Airport after a traveller alleged a bomb in their luggage; security checks found nothing and the aircraft left later.
Holidaymakers on Jet2 flight LS1536 from Tenerife South to London Stansted were ordered off the aircraft after a passenger claimed to have a bomb hidden in their luggage. The Boeing 737-800, slated for an 11:20 am departure, was isolated while officers from Spain’s Civil Guard performed a comprehensive security sweep of the cabin, cargo hold and passenger bags. No explosive device was discovered, allowing passengers to re-board and the flight to finally depart at about 1:45 pm, a delay of roughly two and a half hours.
Jet2 confirmed the incident and said staff cooperated with local authorities. Initial investigations point to a false alarm by the traveller who raised the threat. This is not the first such alert in Spain this year, with comparable scares reported in Barcelona in July and Malaga in May, prompting comparable precautionary procedures.
