Jewish man assaulted on Düsseldorf riverbank in alleged hate attack
A Jewish man wearing an IDF-branded sweater and a kippa was verbally abused and physically attacked by several people on the Düsseldorf Rhine waterfront, police say.
On a Tuesday evening at the Düsseldorf Rhine riverbank, a Jewish man dressed in a black sweater bearing the “IDF” logo and a kippa was first confronted by two women who directed anti-Israeli slurs at him. Shortly after, two men arrived and assaulted him with punches and kicks, repeatedly chanting “child murderer.” Three witnesses attempted to stop the attack; one was hit by a blow and suffered minor injuries.
The perpetrators and the women escaped without identification. State security (Staatsschutz) has opened a probe into the politically motivated assault, and police are seeking additional witnesses, describing one attacker as having dark, shoulder-length curly hair and wearing a red tracksuit.
