JioHotstar partners with Starzplay to launch in MENA region
India's JioHotstar has entered the Middle East and North Africa by joining Starzplay’s platform, offering its Indian content to the region’s South Asian audience.
JioHotstar, India’s largest streaming service, has expanded into the Middle East and North Africa through a collaboration with Abu Dhabi-based Starzplay. A separate JioHotstar hub will be available within Starzplay’s digital ecosystem, delivering new Indian originals at the same time as their Indian release and supporting up to ten audio languages. The offering combines JioStar’s television series, major film releases and popular reality shows, notably a new season of “Koffee With Karan” and one outlet “Bigg Boss” season in six languages.
Content spans Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Bangla, with a particularly extensive Malayalam library for viewers from Kerala. Starzplay’s Plus plan (AED34.99) and Max plan (AED49.99) now include the full JioHotstar lineup, the latter also bundling cricket and other sports. To mark the debut, JioHotstar’s branding was projected onto Dubai’s Burj Khalifa. Starzplay serves over 2.3 million subscribers across MENA and Pakistan, backed by investors including evision, ADQ, Lionsgate, GE and SEQ.
Why it matters
The deal brings Indian streaming content to a large South Asian diaspora, expanding entertainment choices in the MENA market.
