Job seekers largely overlook employer pension contributions as a key benefit
Only 31% of working adults rank employer pension payments among their top three job benefits, according to a Which? survey.
Research commissioned by Which? reveals that just 31% of respondents place employer pension contributions within their three most important job perks, trailing paid sick leave (53%) and flexible working hours and holiday entitlement (both 45%). Despite this, a slight majority (55%) acknowledge they would factor pension contributions into their decision. The survey highlights a stark age divide: 49% of those aged 55-64 view pensions as a top benefit, compared with only 11% of 18-24-year-olds.
Moreover, 46% of employees already contributing to a defined-contribution pension are unaware of their employer’s matching amount. Experts stress that checking pension match details can act as a “silent pay rise” for job hunters.
Why it matters
Understanding pension contributions helps job seekers evaluate total compensation and plan for retirement.
