John Deere rolls out AI assistant ‘JD’ for early-access farmers
John Deere has begun testing an AI chatbot called “JD” that uses a farm’s own data to answer operational questions.
John Deere introduced an AI chatbot named “JD” that leverages a farmer’s field, machine and operational data to provide guidance on topics such as equipment configuration, fuel consumption and optimal harvest dates. The tool is currently in an Early Access Program for a limited set of U.S. users via the John Deere Operations Center, with future expansion to web, mobile platforms and tractor displays. The company’s press release outlined a ten-point Farmer Data Commitment, assuring that farm data will not be sold, that owners can control third-party access, and that the data will only be used to improve machine performance and decision-making.
Deere also pledged not to use the data for commodity trading or speculation. Additional capabilities are slated for customers in turf, construction, roadbuilding and forestry sectors.
Why it matters
The AI assistant could help farmers boost efficiency while addressing long-standing concerns over data ownership.
