John Gotti's grandson surrenders to begin federal prison term after transplant delay

Carmine Agnello, aged 40 and the grandson of notorious Gambino leader John Gotti, voluntarily reported to authorities on August 10 to commence a 15-month sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution Fairton in New Jersey. He had previously received a two-month reprieve to potentially donate a kidney to his mother, Victoria Gotti, after an infection threatened her health. Despite his attorney’s pleas for additional time, Judge Nusrat Choudhury ruled on August 6 that without a confirmed transplant schedule, no further deferral was justified.

The judge ordered Agnello to surrender as scheduled, and prosecutors argued that the kidney could be donated while he is incarcerated. Agnello’s surrender was recorded in the court docket, and he now begins his term.
