John Malkovich Cancels Tel Aviv Show After Fake Quote Controversy

Actor John Malkovich withdrew from a scheduled performance of “The Music Critic” in Tel Aviv after a press release misattributed statements to him.

John Malkovich confirmed his decision to pull out of a planned performance of the classical music-theatre piece “The Music Critic” in Tel Aviv, Israel. The cancellation follows a press release that falsely presented direct quotations attributed to him, which first appeared in one outlet after being sourced from one outlet. According to Malkovich, a public-relations company engaged by the local promoter fabricated the remarks without his knowledge or approval.

He stated that the invented statements do not represent his feelings and that their publication is unacceptable. Consequently, he deemed it impossible to continue with the Tel Aviv engagement. The actor highlighted his extensive touring history, having performed the work in 47 countries over nearly two decades.
