Johor expands housing subsidies, reaching over 21,000 families
More than 21,000 residents in Johor have received RM84.19 million in aid for buying, renting or moving into homes under the BKJ programme.
Johor's Bantuan Perumahan Kasih Johor (BKJ) scheme has provided RM84.19 million to more than 21,000 households for purchasing, renting or moving into housing. At a recent event in Arena Larkin, committee chairman Mohd Jafni Md Shukor announced that the sixth phase helped 6,110 recipients secure RM24.2 million, with individual grants between RM2,000 and RM5,000. The latest round covers homebuyers, tenants and families shifting to new homes.
To date, the state has finished 25,791 affordable units, falling short of the 30,000-unit goal set for 2022-2026, while the long-term plan targets 100,000 affordable homes by 2030, including 70,000 additional units. Jafni said some applications were rejected due to incomplete paperwork, ownership issues or eligibility gaps, and pledged to simplify the process for future applicants.
Why it matters
The subsidies ease housing costs for low-income families and move Johor closer to its affordable-home targets.
