Joplin Jailbirds GM celebrates inaugural championship and looks ahead
Donovan Harns, the general manager of the Joplin Jailbirds, reflected on a successful first season that ended with a league title and expressed enthusiasm for future seasons.
Having grown up watching and playing at Joe Becker Stadium, Donovan Harns assumed the general manager role for the inaugural Joplin Jailbirds in the summer of 2026. The team secured the MINK League trophy on July 31, capping a memorable debut season. Harns recalled a nervous night before the June 2 home opener, which attracted over 1,000 spectators, and noted a crowd of more than 600 for the championship game.
He described the championship win as a fitting finale before the stadium undergoes remodels. Looking forward, Harns wants the historic park to serve as a community hub, hosting events such as a Taylor Swift-style concert on Oct. 2 and future movie nights. He sees the success as a full-circle moment, having been a fan, player, coach, and now executive at the same venue.
