Jordan Cox draws on Virat Kohli's advice ahead of England-Pakistan Test at Headingley
England's Jordan Cox says guidance from Virat Kohli will stay with him as he opens the batting in the upcoming Test against Pakistan.
Having bonded with Virat Kohli during a stint at Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Jordan Cox said the Indian legend's counsel to savor each moment and respect family will guide him in the England-Pakistan Test series. Cox, who debuted at number seven against New Zealand, steps into the number three slot after Jacob Bethell's knee injury for the first two Tests at Headingley. He also noted Kohli's support during a previous setback when a broken thumb cost him a debut in 2024.
England, under interim coach Marcus Trescothick and captain Joe Root, will field a four-bowler attack, with Jofra Archer, Ollie Robinson and possibly Josh Tongue and Gus Atkinson if they recover from travel fatigue. Dan Lawrence returns to the side at six, and Surrey's off-spinner adds variety. The series comes as England seeks to improve a poor record against Pakistan, who have not won a home series in three decades.
Why it matters
Cox's new role and mentorship from a cricket great could influence England's performance in a key series against Pakistan.
