Journalist Peter FitzSimons testifies in Alan Jones indecent assault trial
Author Peter FitzSimons gave evidence about his 2019 conversation with a former Jones staffer during the broadcaster’s ongoing trial for multiple indecent assault charges.
Alan Jones, the former 2GB broadcaster now 85, remains on trial in Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court on 20 indecent assault and two sexual touching charges spanning 2003-2020. In today’s hearing, Peter FitzSimons, a columnist for one outlet, recounted a 2019 conversation with a former Jones staffer, identified in court documents only as “C”. FitzSimons explained that the meeting was arranged by Jones’s 2GB colleague Ray Hadley and that he never learned the complainant’s name, nor reported the claims at the time.
The court noted that investigative reporter Kate McClymont later interviewed the same complainant in 2023, publishing the allegations anonymously, which led to the creation of NSW Police’s Strike Force Bonnefin. Jones denies any wrongdoing. Support services for sexual assault victims were listed for listeners.
