JPMorgan Chase invests $5 billion in security and resiliency venture portfolio
JPMorgan Chase’s Strategic Investment Group deployed $5 billion in equity investments during the first year of its $1.5 trillion Security and Resiliency Initiative.
In the inaugural year of its $1.5 trillion Security and Resiliency Initiative, JPMorgan Chase’s Strategic Investment Group invested $5 billion in equity across venture, growth and later-stage firms, according to a Monday statement. Todd Combs, who heads the group, noted that this represents half of the initiative’s initial $10 billion equity allocation and supports sectors such as defense technologies, distributed battery storage, automated manufacturing and frontier tech.
Among the disclosed holdings are defense startups Hadrian and Castelion, both of which received large fundraising rounds that JPMorgan backed. Co-President Doug Petno indicated the bank may increase the $10 billion equity commitment, while overall financing activity for the initiative topped $230 billion in five focus areas, including a $125 billion merger of Dominion Energy and NextEra. The program, launched in the U.S. last October and now expanded to the U.K., Canada and Europe, employs more than 35 dedicated professionals and has a significant portion of activity outside the United States. JPMorgan plans to translate research into actionable projects that bolster critical supply chains and cross-border policy coordination in its second year.
