Judge Allows Police Discretion Over Release of Josh Jacobs Assault Video

In a Thursday ruling, Brown County Judge Marc Hammer refused to seal the surveillance video tied to Josh Jacobs' battery and property-damage charges, shifting the decision-making power to the Hobart-Lawrence Police Department. Jacobs, a running back for the Green Bay Packers, had previously pleaded no contest after prosecutors alleged he violently tossed a woman, referred to as “ANM,” and broke her phone during a May dispute at his Wisconsin home.

The victim requested sealing the footage, citing risks to her privacy, dignity, and safety if it became public. Under the new order, the police department will evaluate any future requests for the records and determine whether release is appropriate, with both the victim and Jacobs allowed to appear if the department decides to disclose. Attorney Ramses Jalalpour indicated they will likely pursue a court injunction should the police intend to make the video available. Jacobs remains on the NFL’s exempt list, preventing him from playing for the Packers.
