Judge denies bond for South Carolina woman charged with stabbing Lyft driver 11 times

In Greenville County, a judge denied bond for Naziyha Weatherall, who is charged with attempted murder, carjacking and possession of a weapon during a violent crime after an alleged April 22 attack in which she stabbed a Lyft driver eleven times and took his vehicle. Prosecutors called the incident a "frightening factual scenario" and emphasized the danger Weatherall poses to the public. The driver’s wife testified that the assault occurred while her husband was simply performing his job, raising concerns about safety for ride-share workers.

Weatherall’s attorney argued she was experiencing a severe psychiatric crisis, including paranoia and a belief she was being trafficked, and requested release for placement in a treatment center. The court scheduled a psychological evaluation for September and kept her detained. Lyft responded by permanently deleting the rider’s accounts and reaching out to the driver’s family for assistance.
