Judge Issues Temporary Restraining Order Allowing Mark Mitchell to Enter Transfer Portal
A Jefferson Circuit Court judge granted a temporary restraining order permitting former Missouri forward Mark Mitchell and other exhausted NCAA athletes to use the transfer portal.
On Friday, Brian Edwards of Jefferson Circuit Court granted a temporary restraining order that allows Mark Mitchell and other former NCAA athletes, who have completed their eligibility, to access the transfer portal. The order, confirmed by attorney Hans Poppe, lifts previous restrictions and lets the players initiate official talks with interested programs. Mitchell, a 6-foot-9, 230-pound forward who received All-SEC recognition in each of his last two seasons at Missouri, is being linked to the University of Kentucky.
Kentucky coach Mark Pope is reportedly evaluating Mitchell to fill the team’s 15th and final roster slot for the upcoming 2026-27 campaign. The decision marks a significant step in Mitchell’s potential move to Kentucky and opens the door for other former players to explore new opportunities.
Why it matters
The ruling clears a legal hurdle, allowing a top prospect to pursue a transfer that could impact Kentucky's basketball roster.
