Judge sentences man for kidnapping and detaining Palestinian individual

Judge Mohd Arief Emran Arifin sentenced Edy Ko’im Said after he pleaded guilty to kidnapping and secretly detaining a 31-year-old Palestinian man.

In a Kuala Lumpur courtroom, Judge Mohd Arief Emran Arifin handed down a prison sentence to Edy Ko’im Said, 46, after he admitted guilt to kidnapping and illegally confining a 31-year-old Palestinian man. The abduction occurred at 10:40 p.m. on 28 September 2022 on Jalan Mayang, Dang Wangi, after which the victim was taken to a chalet in Hulu Langat, Selangor, where his hands and feet were tied with cable. Police recovered the victim during a raid guided by intelligence.

The deputy public prosecutor, Mahadhir Mohd Khairudin, argued for a substantial term, citing the seriousness of the offense, while defence counsel Kelvinder Singh Sidhu requested the minimum term due to the defendant’s family responsibilities. The judge ordered the sentence to begin that day. Parallel proceedings continue for seven other accused linked to the same kidnapping plot and related money-laundering charges.
