Judicial Watch files FOIA suit to obtain CIA records on Fauci's COVID-19 communications
Conservative watchdog Judicial Watch has sued the CIA in D.C. federal court, seeking emails and memos about Dr. Anthony Fauci's discussions with intelligence officials on the pandemic's origins.
Judicial Watch, a conservative government-watchdog group, has lodged a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit against the Central Intelligence Agency in the District of Columbia federal court. The filing seeks any communications that show Dr. Anthony Fauci interacting with intelligence officials about the origins of COVID-19, including references to gain-of-function experiments, the Wuhan Institute of Virology, and how scientific advisers were chosen for the official investigation.
The suit comes after the CIA ignored a prior request made in May. It was spurred by remarks from CIA Senior Operations Officer James E. Erdman III during a Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee hearing, where he alleged that Fauci used his position to shape the intelligence community's analysis by pushing a curated list of experts. The lawsuit aims to obtain the requested records to clarify the extent of Fauci's influence on the intelligence assessment. The case now proceeds before a federal judge in Washington, D.C. The outcome could affect public understanding of the relationship between health officials and intelligence agencies during the pandemic response.
