Jumbotron crashes onto Illinois high school gym floor during installation
A massive video scoreboard fell from its rigging and shattered on the basketball court of O’Fallon Township High School in southern Illinois.
While upgrading the gym at O’Fallon Township High School, a massive jumbotron scoreboard slipped from its harness as a cable detached, sending the unit crashing onto the basketball court and breaking into pieces. The dramatic footage quickly circulated on TikTok and other platforms. Superintendent Beth Shackelford confirmed that sports and other activities will continue, though schedules may be altered to accommodate the disruption.
The contractor, Nevco, indicated that repair work will commence within two to three weeks and that the school will not be billed for the incident. The school, one of the largest outside Chicago with over 2,500 students, will also bear the cost of floor repairs, which Nevco has pledged to pay.
