Jury to examine preventability of Pontypool student's meningitis death
A jury will hear a full inquest into the meningitis death of an 18-year-old Pontypool student, as ordered by coroner Brendan Allen.
The coroner, Brendan Allen, ruled that a jury must consider the death of an 18-year-old Pontypool student who succumbed to meningitis during her first term at Bournemouth University. The inquest will scrutinise her contact with the NHS 111 service, the triage process at Royal Bournemouth Hospital, the out-of-hours treatment she received, and her subsequent admission to Southmead Hospital in Bristol. Allen also directed Dorset Healthcare University NHS Foundation Trust to submit a statement covering the call and its handling procedures.
He expressed sympathy to the family and scheduled the inquest to begin on July 19, 2027. The investigation will focus on whether the death was preventable.
Why it matters
