JustGO digital toll system launches on Penang Bridge with ANPR technology

Zairil Khir Johari, chair of the Penang Infrastructure, Transport and Digital Committee, announced that the JustGO platform is now operational on the Penang Bridge, employing automatic number-plate recognition to process tolls automatically. Registered users can travel through any available lane, with transactions linked to a payment card stored in the app, while a special LaneFreedom feature removes the need to select a lane by payment type.

Currently, at the Bandar Cassia toll plaza, JustGO service is confined to designated RFID lanes marked with a red circle. Penang residents who enroll enjoy a 20% discount on bridge tolls, and officials expect the ANPR system to improve traffic flow, cut reliance on cash, and advance the state’s smart-city ambitions. The app can be downloaded from the Apple App Store, Google Play, or Huawei AppGallery, and users receive payment confirmations shortly after passing a toll. Full journey records are accessible within the app, encouraging broader adoption of digital mobility solutions.
