Justice Department indicts over 80 members of Puerto Rican drug gang

Attorney General Todd Blanche, traveling to the U.S. Caribbean territory, revealed that federal prosecutors have filed charges against more than 80 people tied to the Los Baja Deo gang. The criminal network, based in Mayagüez, allegedly trafficked fentanyl, cocaine and other illegal substances, generating nearly $50 million in revenue. Authorities also attribute to the gang a series of violent acts, including shootings, murders, kidnappings and assaults, as well as the distribution of at least 340 kilograms of fentanyl or fentanyl-infused narcotics.
Blanche emphasized the coordinated effort of Homeland Security Task Forces to dismantle cartels and transnational gangs across the United States. Acting U.S. attorney Héctor Ramírez-Carbó said the prosecutions will restore safety for the residents of Mayagüez. The announcement underscores the Trump administration’s focus on combating violent crime and drug trafficking.
