Juventus sends Canadian striker Jonathan David on season-long loan to Atlético Madrid

Juventus and Atlético Madrid have agreed to a one-year loan for Canadian forward Jonathan David, whose inaugural season in Turin yielded just six goals from 35 league appearances. The arrangement follows a similar loan of Nico Gonzalez the previous summer, with both players seeking a fresh start in Spain. David arrived at Juventus on a free transfer from Lille and signed a contract that made him one of the club’s highest earners, a deal originally negotiated by former sporting chief Damien Comolli.

Under managers Igor Tudor and later Luciano Spalletti, David struggled for minutes and goals, prompting the loan. Atlético will cover over 50 % of his €6 million net wage and holds a €25 million buy-option, though the agreement contains no obligatory purchase clause. The loan gives David the opportunity to regain confidence in La Liga and compete in the Champions League, while Juventus hopes a strong season could attract a future sale.
