Kagame accuses DRC of arming FDLR as Rwanda vows continued security actions

President Paul Kagame reiterated that the main obstacle to peace in Rwanda's east is the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda operating from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. He asserted that Congolese authorities are providing arms to the group and absorbing its members into national units, basing this on statements from ex-FDLR combatants who have either returned voluntarily or been captured. Kagame criticized international voices urging Rwanda to stay out of the conflict, insisting that security concerns must be addressed first.

He also highlighted the role of the Mutobo Demobilisation and Reintegration Centre, which disarms and reintegrates former fighters arriving from eastern DRC. While Kinshasa accuses Kigali of backing the M23 movement, Rwanda denied those allegations and emphasized its readiness to cooperate regionally for peace.
