Kai Tak Hospital to Open in Stages Starting Monday with Family Medicine Centre
Kai Tak Hospital will begin phased operations on Monday, launching a family medicine centre and allied health services first.
Kai Tak Hospital, the newest addition to Hong Kong's Kowloon Central Cluster, is set to commence operations in phases starting Monday. Chief executive Eric Cheung announced that a family medicine centre and allied health services will be the first to open, followed by specialist outpatient clinics in late October and additional services in November. The phased approach is intended to minimize operational risks, given the project's scale as the biggest hospital relocation in the city's history.
The Hospital Authority expects the facility, which will eventually house 2,400 beds and 37 operating rooms, to take over many clinical functions currently provided by Queen Elizabeth Hospital. The hospital also features an automated blood sample transport system and a 2,000-square-metre pharmacy, the largest of its kind in Hong Kong, and will serve over 1.8 million residents.
Why it matters
The opening expands public healthcare capacity for over 1.8 million Hong Kong residents.
