Kakao Pay Securities partners with Dinari and Ondo to test tokenized Korean stocks abroad
Kakao Pay Securities has signed memorandums with US-based Dinari and Ondo Finance to explore issuing blockchain tokens backed by Korean equities for overseas investors.
Kakao Pay Securities announced memorandums of understanding with Dinari and Ondo Finance to pilot tokenized versions of Korean stocks for investors outside Korea. The Dinari deal will test its dShares model, which issues a one-to-one token for each underlying share, while the Ondo partnership will focus on holding Korean shares in a pooled foreign-investor account and studying token issuance and redemption. Both projects will address technical integration, regulatory clearance, and the treatment of shareholder rights such as dividends and voting.
Dinari already provides tokenized US securities in more than 85 jurisdictions, and Ondo’s equity platform has amassed over $1 billion in locked value since its launch. Joint task forces are planned for later this year to develop operating plans and potentially offer the service to overseas retail clients.
Why it matters
Tokenizing Korean equities could give foreign investors easier, round-the-clock access to Korea’s stock market.
